- "Margrove Orangery" Dept. 56 Item #58440. Introduced 1999 and retired 2001. Mint condition piece in original box & sleeve. Citrus was grown in this type of facility partly in order to provide fresh fruit for sailors on long voyages. Sunlight enters the building through three sets of skylights- one at either end and one that makes up the dome. Oranges were sweet treats in Dicken's time, but in old London town, the tropical climate for growing oranges is hard to come by, so the need for an Orangery blossomed. Under the bright light streaming through the glass-like dome, passersby can stop in for their own little piece of the tropics. Size: 11" x 6.25" x 7"
