- "The Church Of The Holy Sepulcher" Dept. 56 Little Town Of Bethlehem Item #59814. Introduced 2003 and retired 2004. Mint condition piece in original box & sleeve. The most sacred of all Christian sites is the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Dedicated in A.D. 335 it was built by Empress Helena and her son Constantine the Great around the site of Christ's crucifixion, burial and resurrection. According to tradition, the church occupies the site of Golgotha where the Crucifixion and Burial of Christ took place. Excavations beneath the church itself have shown that the area did indeed consist of gardens and a cemetery during the 1st century BC to the 1st century AD. Size: 11" x 12" x 10".
