Between Jerusalem and the Dead Sea lies a rocky and barren wasteland known as the Judean Wilderness. Throughout this area the countryside is parched and untilled with off-white limestone jutting up from the barren soil. Rocky hills sparsely covered with dry, brown grass have hundreds of deep ravines cutting through the crumbling sandstone. This was the very wilderness where Jesus prepared for his ministry. When Simon became a desciple, Jesus named him Peter, meaning "rock" and later declared, "On this rock I will build my church." Mint condition piece in original box & sleeve.
