"Limestone Outcropping"

- "Limestone Outcropping" Dept. 56 Little Town Of Bethlehem Item #59911. Introduced 2000 and retired 2003. Mint condition piece in original box & sleeve. In the rocky hills just south of Jerusalem, the Little Town of Bethlehem lies on a low but steep ridge. Although green fields and lush olive groves surround it, a harsh wilderness exists close to the east. The hills of Bethlehem are formed of limestone outcroppings, which are packed with habitable caves. These caves were used as stables in ancient times and had mangers or troughs carved into the limestone walls. Evidence of such mangers can still be found today. Size: 13.5" x 8.75".
