- "Merchant Cart" Dept. 56 Little Town Of Bethlehem accessory set of 2, Item #59902. Introduced 2000 and retired 2003. Mint condition piece in original box & sleeve. This is Bethlehem's own traveling merchant. Many countries in the Near East used oxen in a variety of ways. They were essential as draft animals drawing plows, dragging threshing sleds and pulling wagons filled with farm produce or market goods. Wooden carts came in a variety of forms including covered or open, two or four wheels and could be pulled by one or more animals. Cart Size: 5" x 2.5"
