- "Rug Merchant's Colonnade" Dept. 56 Little Town Of Bethlehem set of 4, Item #59802. Introduced 2000 and retired 2005. Includes "Rug Merchant & Wool Spinner" and Ladder. Throughout the Holy Land, wool is still spun into yarn and cloth is woven using the traditional methods employed during biblical times. Back then, Palestine's wool market was largely centered in and around Jerusalem and many homes of the time had room set aside for a loom. In a colonnaded marketplace where open shops connect to merchants' homes, a cloth and rug merchant inspects his wares. He may have also sold linen produced in Galilee and precious silk imported from the Orient. Mint condition piece in original box & sleeve. Size: 4.5" x 8.25", 3", 2", 9.5".
