"Stonemason AT Work"

- "Stonemason At Work" Dept. 56 Little Town Of Bethlehem Set of 3, Item #59903. Introduced 2000 and retired 2003. Mint condition piece in original box & sleeve. Stone was abundant in the Holy Land and was used in the construction of city walls, buildings and many other public structures. To split stone, masons would drive wooden stakes into the rock and then soak them with water. The wood expanded causing the stone to break free. Chisel and hammer were then used to square-off or dress the stone. Stonemasons still practice in part of the Middle East today. Size 7" x 2" x 1.5", 7" x 2.8" x 1.5", 5" x 4.5" x 2.5".
